G. L. Pease - Cairo 2oz
Mild morning sipper
2 oz tin aged 2 years-- Upon opening the tin, I'm met with the aroma of plum, fruitcake, and an unmistakable aroma reminiscent of Welch's grape juice. The plummy and fruiter notes from the VAs and the Orientals translate into the palate and are complimented by the darker, peppery notes of the Perique on the backend. While quite mild for my palate, this blend is very well balanced. Well suited for a morning dark roast. I was intrigued by the unique and dominant blend of VAs, and they don't disappoint, but don't think you're getting a Navy Flake level of VA. The VAs in Cairo are much more dainty, but provide an orange-zesty and hay note. Cairo is a first in the world of oriental-heavy blends for me. With this blend, I have a better understanding of the palate of orientals, and I find the brighter, tangier oriental leaf in Cairo to be very pleasing.
