About This Pipe Tobacco

Cairo is a wonderfully complex mixture of Red, Orange and bright Virginia tobaccos, exotic Oriental leaf, and just a whisper of Perique from G. L. Pease. The flavor is naturally sweet, slightly nutty, delicately spicy and rich. Subtle citrus-like notes harmoniously support the more robust flavors of the darker Virginias. A medium-bodied tobacco with a delicate aroma, Cairo will satisfy Virginia lovers and the connoisseur of Oriental mixtures alike.

Turkish Gold

Product: G. L. Pease Cairo 2oz
Remember Camel Turkish Golds from the ‘90s? Well I do, and fondly at that. Cairo is reminiscent of the Camel glory days in the most eloquently luxurious way possible.
Mild morning sipper

Product: G. L. Pease Cairo 2oz
2 oz tin aged 2 years-- Upon opening the tin, I'm met with the aroma of plum, fruitcake, and an unmistakable aroma reminiscent of Welch's grape juice. The plummy and fruiter notes from the VAs and the Orientals translate into the palate and are complimented by the darker, peppery notes of the Perique on the backend. While quite mild for my palate, this blend is very well balanced. Well suited for a morning dark roast. I was intrigued by the unique and dominant blend of VAs, and they don't disappoint, but don't think you're getting a Navy Flake level of VA. The VAs in Cairo are much more dainty, but provide an orange-zesty and hay note. Cairo is a first in the world of oriental-heavy blends for me. With this blend, I have a better understanding of the palate of orientals, and I find the brighter, tangier oriental leaf in Cairo to be very pleasing....Read More
Delicious Orientals but needed a lot of aging

Product: G. L. Pease Cairo 2oz
smoked this in the spring of 2022. Was a fresh tin. Tried it in a wide bowl Savinelli 316ks, in a tall poker and a clay. Was disappointed as the experience across the board was very cigaretty. Cellared it for 2 years reopened it wondering if anything would have changed and boy did it. This is such a fun hobby because you can never really tell due to the complexity of tobacco's how aging will affect a blend. But I have been reading that C and D doesn't really age their tobacco prior to canning it. Consequently it makes sense if true. Update: 4 years after opening the 10, 2 years after the last review. This has been a frustrating blend and I had to return and set the proper rating at 2.5 stars. There was a small window of about a year where it tasted good but it never really stood out and the aging process has not helped it. This is the only of g.l. Pease's blends that I've thrown away after 4 years of aging with a third left. It just wasn't worth it anymore. It was always an exercise and frustration even when it did taste good. you shouldn't have to work this hard for a good smoke. If you like orientals as much as I do head on over to his most excellent Regents flake a much Superior Oriental forward blend....Read More
