I bought this in a batch along with Bayou morning and Fillmore. Honestly didn't think it would be as impressive as the other two seeing so many reviews on them. Very pleasantly surprised. This is my favorite of the three that I ordered. The nicotine is medium. Others have commented on the flavor profile I would just add that I found this to be an excellent blend to initiate new pipes with. Definitely a winner. Update: 6 months jarring. I hit it up in a Peterson St Patrick's Day XL 11 and it's the bomb. That pipe is turning into a true unicorn superior to all other pipes ;-). You could really taste the perique where it was kind of hidden in the beginning. I don't think this stands up to in Escudo or, for my money, Penny Farthing, but it's a solid respectable Vaper. And it will likely appeal to a broad spectrum of tastes just cellar for at least 3 months....Read More

Tin notes of vinegar and dried fruits. In the bowl it is citrusy sweet and peppery. Reminds me of G.L.Pease Cairo without the oriental.
nice change of pace

Product: G. L. Pease Stratford 2oz
Tin note of pungent, tangy raisins and sugar. Tobacco is a Ribbon cut of orangish brown, tan and a little dark brown. Moisture content is good. Some pipe smokers will want to dry this a bit. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is medium and nic is mild to medium. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium and mostly consistent, with notes of lemon grass, sugar, wood, spices, bready, floral, tangy raisin, zesty orange peel, fermented musty vegetation, tart dark plums, savory, a spicy sweet citrus background note, and a peppery retro. Virginia is leading with Perique supporting. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great....Read More
Balanced traditional VaPer

Product: G. L. Pease Stratford 2oz
This is an excellent and very underrated traditional VaPer. The bready sweetness of the virginias and peppery and figgy notes of the perique balance each other very well. A great all-day VaPer and a very traditional one at that!
Very Nuanced, Delicate VaPer

This is by far one of the best VaPer blends I have ever tried. I’m so happy I bought the 8oz tin. No cloying tin note, just a fresh, harmonious chord of well aged classic tobaccos. The ratios are spot-on: the red Virginia base is gorgeous; the bright Virginia, about which I was admittedly worried (I like red much more than bright), provides an excellent counterbalance; and the perique is just right, juuust enough to liven it up and give it that figgy, raisiny, fresh baked bread aroma we VaPer lovers cannot do without. It is a bit moist right out of the tin, but that’s not really a problem if you use a large enough pipe and take it slow. It’s full bodied and yet still very mellow and inviting. Finally, the room note is HEAVENLY. I’m smoking this INSIDE my apartment right now, and it smells incredibly pleasant. Smoke around non-pipe-smokers or even non-smokers with no fear. GL Pease has worked their magic yet again. This is going into my full time rotation....Read More

Stratford has been compared to Elizabethan but Stradtford has more red Virginias and a just touch less perique IMO. This is a great all day smoke. It is very balanced and nuanced like all of the G.L. Pease blends I have smoked. Telegraph Hill has more bright Virginias and Fillmore has more perique. Stratdford is my favorite of the Pease Va/Per trio because I prefer red Virginias and the perique content in Fillmore is a bit much for me. In terms of taste is has a peppery cherry taste with wonderful moments of mushroom earthiness that keep me coming back for more. I also get a bit of cranberry at times. I prefer the taste of flakes but this ribbon is a nice break and very easy to deal with and burns very nicely especially for breaking in pipes....Read More
Very nice perique spice in this one

GL Pease does great things with VaPers, and I use his "Telegraph Hill" as my yardstick. Stratford is a little more mellow than TH, but delicious. The red and bright Virginia base makes this one a little bit more round than Telegraph Hill. It's a keeper. The perique is always there, but the sweetness of the red Virginia comes in and out through the bowl. This blend burns very well, too....Read More

Yorktown meets Louisiana Perique! I was going to compare the Pease VaPers but then reading FriarAlcuin's review, he really nailed everything I was going to say. I second his conclusions. This is my favorite of the Pease VaPer blends, strong with Reds and perfectly balanced with Perique. A wonderful all day smoke....Read More

I first tried this blend to replace Elizabeathan mixture (back when it was unavailable) and realized that I should have been smoking this one all along. It's well balanced and great all day smoke. I highly recommend this to any va/per fans
Quite nice!

Update: Now that my fresh briar has some cake on it, the sweetness of this blend is much more foreward and seems to come through at the start of each draw. The spice comes in immediately after, blending with the sweetness. The flavor is much better and more complex than I had initially thought. If it starts to burn too hot the sweetness will fade and become more spicey, if it starts to get too cool and starts going out you'll only really get the sweetness to come through with an afterthought of spice. I have raised my review by one star. The original posting remains below. ------

This is a really nice blend, needs minimal dry time before getting packed up, if any at all. The scent out of the tin is really mild, mostly smells like fresh tobacco. The flavor starts out with a bit of sweetness on the charring light, followed by a nice long bowl of spice with hints of sweetness coming through intermittently. Pairs wonderfully with a good cup of tea, it really helps brings out the complexity of the flavor. I also enjoyed how consistently this burned and tasted all the way down to the bottom with minimal maintenance. If you're a faster smoker you might find that this will overheat pretty easily. The aftertaste is very warm, like I just drank a hot spiced cider with a dash of whiskey. (Not the apple flavor, the rest of the spice and warmth) There's also a faint tartness that makes my mouth water, it reactivated the spicey flavor and goes back to tart which starts the cycle again. The room note is really mild, earthy and spicey, can't complain about it or rave about it.
