About This Pipe Tobacco

A blended, sliced cake of high-grade flue cured leaf, from beautiful, sweet brights to deep, earthy reds, without the added sugars and flavourings common to many Virginia flakes. It's rich on the palate, evolving in layers with the clean, natural sweetness of pure tobaccos. It offers a pleasant room note, and a delightful finish. For those seeking the pure Virginia experience, try Pease's Union Square.

Where Fermentation Becomes the Feature - Tang

February 25, 2026

By: Wes S.

Product: G. L. Pease Union Square 8oz

Union Square stands out for its dough. The crust has a noticeable fermented tang — clean, lactic, and sourdough-adjacent — that hits first without turning sharp or acidic. It’s a bright, savory sourness that adds depth and balance rather than overpowering the slice. The profile is reminiscent of Golden Slice, but Union Square feels just as intentional, with fermentation used to give the yogurt like character, not gimmick....Read More

You can taste the hay right out of the field. Sweet and fragrant. I'll be keeping this on hand.

Soft Brilliance

Product: G. L. Pease Union Square 2oz

There's a distinct brightness, even sharpness, particularly after first light. This shine relaxes, however, after the bowl gets going, to be replaced with a softness, mouthfeel and flavor-wise, that showcases the sweet VAs. Keeping it low and slow, brings out the fresh baked medium dark bread with touch of sugar. Elegant and restrained, but fully delivers a flavorful and smooth smoking experience....Read More

Unconventional appreciation

Product: G. L. Pease Union Square 2oz

I have really been trying to figure how to rate this tobacco and how I personally feel about it. Initially I found myself agreeing with a lot of the 3 star reviews for this blend. A bit bitey from what I'm feeling is more acidic with my mouths biological structure, smokes a little hot, not all that easy to find a good packing strategy, and a nuesance to keep lit. When the draw and ember are just right this stuff tastes really good as a straight tobacco flavor with hints of sweetness and hay which I really enjoy. However, I've finally figured out where this truly shines in my personal rotation currently. This blends works fantastically as a palette cleanser. When I smoke this right before an English blend the flavor of the English blend explodes in my mouth. I now use this to be able to enjoy my other favorite blends that much more, so it has unconventionally found it's way as a utility blend in my roatation....Read More

Nice

Well-rounded and familiar, with a really nice balance to it. The flake rubs out easily and prepares without much fuss. Once lit, it settles into a smooth, steady smoke that doesn’t demand too much attention.
