nd burns without issue. I forgot about a tin in the back of the cupboard for a few years. Man, this ages well! I just bought a few tins to "lose" again. Don't let it dry out. I prefer to keep it a little damp (as its tinned) and just know that I'll need to sit a flake out for a few hours before smoking. Sit it out with your morning bowl and load this for some afternoon delight. This is in my regular rotation for when I need something a little lighter and a little sweeter. Read Less
Plum Fantastic

Product: Peterson University Flake 50g
I first experienced this flake at a local brick and mortar store and fell in love with it. The plum topping is evident in the tin note but not overly sweet after the char light. One of my top tobaccos.
My all-day.

Decent Plum/Huckleberry-Topped Flake

ouldn't classify this as medium strength, but rather medium/strong. The nicotine is there and you'll feel it first thing in the morning. Nicotine is 3.5 out of 5. t your pipe. Still, this is a medium-bodied blend with a subdued grape flavor that soon after the char light, gives way to a mild coffee flavor. I once went bowl after bowl on this one, day after day, for about a week. But I was seduced back by what I consider better and bolder blends: Irish Flake, Solani Aged Burley Flake, and Old Joe Krantz, which I will burn through all day.
Yet I do gladly return to University Flake from time to time, with its mixture of burley, dark-fired Kentucky and mahogany (I haven’t found that in other blends). That topping is something else, though. I do something I haven’t done since I was a very young man at university—smell my fingers with reverie and nostalgia! Read Less

Mid way through the bowl came more together as Plum Jam with a toasty sweet bread/chocolate note.

kground as more of the tobacco burns off... but still lightly resides in the background. Initially, I didn't care for VA/Burs that much but have grown more accustomed to these types of blends with Stonehaven being one of my favorites. UF will be placed in my rotation & sampled from time to time. It has plenty of strength... almost as much as Irish Flake & you'll still get that Vitamin N blast in short order.
I rub & dry this out to an almost crispy state, the same as Irish flake for a better burn rate & they both burn fairly slowly & last a good while especially in a large bowl. They both require picking & tamping & a few relights. It's not bad at all for a VA/Bur blend and the plum flavoring was lightly applied & added an extra dimension that gave it a smoother edge & a sweeter tobacco flavor. I bought the square tin back in 2010 but prefer the newer round, screw-top tins which facilitates freshness for a longer period of time. Read Less

cracker, but folds neatly into a pipe.
Generally, a wide, shallow bowl works better, although, it can behave itself in a taller, thinner bowl. I also found that it behaves best if rubbed out rather than folded and stuffed.
The plum topping is very present in the tin note, and plays about in the blend during the smoke. It does not dominate the palate but makes a nice complement to the rich Virginias and dark Burleys. It smokes cool, producing good quantities of smoke, but requiring a few relights in the process. On a final note, it does have a good dose of vitamin N--probably medium/high.
Even though it is not exceptional, this blend has impressed me as a good bread-and-butter blend.
