Deep, Earthy, and Creamy. A distinguished broken flake of Red Virginia tobaccos, small leaf orientals, and a measure of Cyprus Latakia, spiced with velvety cigar wrapper leaf, Pease's Key Largo develops throughout the bowl, offering a satisfying and sturdy smoking experience, with beautifully balanced, richly textured layers of cocoa, dark roasted coffee, leather, and a lively, lingering finish.

Read Moreause I had only recently got back into smoking my pipe, and perhaps I needed a little more build up before I could appreciate it: so I put the tin away for a year and recently decided it was time to try it again. This time I smoked it in a Peterson system pipe with the P lip, and indeed the channeling of the smoke upward in my mouth revealed more of the wonderful flavor. But it still knocked me for a loop. A single bowl full of it took me a whole day to smoke, and each time I lit up I could manage barely a few puffs before I had to stop and recover. That is why I headed this review 'conflicted.' I love the flavor, I think it is a wonderful blend, but I am just too much a lightweight to handle it. Other tobaccos listed as stronger don't seem to phase me, but this one really sends me reeling. Too sweet for me. No earthy cigar taste at all. Lat hint fairly strong. Prefer Billy Budd to this. More sophisticated-ish than BB, also goes to say that BB is more masculine. Very soapy, you get a mild headache if you're not expecting it.

Much better balance the day after, still soapy but not overwhelming, subtle nuances all around, very pleasantly creamy overall. Can taste the cigar leaf and the dark coffee as advertised. BB still the winner of the two due to simplicity, but if you like complex baccy, Key Largo is the one. Better aftertaste too. So delicious that you don't want to let go, no break needed unlike other stronger baccs. Comparison off top of my head: BB = Whiskey, KL = Cocktail. Read Less

As its namesake hints at, Key Largo is truly lovely. It’s very much a cigar forward pipe blend, with the sweet Virginias and tart Orientals enriching the creamy cigar wrapper. Read Moreng my first tin, I was met with a blast of air that rolled out smelling faintly of manure and strongly of fermented vegetation. After the initial waft, the tin note settled into a mild vinegary red Virginia (McClelland like) riding over a Cigar note. The flakes were intact but delicate, with a perfect moisture content, easily rubbed out and ready to smoke. Key Largo lights up on the first match, produces voluminous smoke and smokes a bit dry. Pairs well with coffee, expresso, whiskeys and rum.
In the pipe, the cigar is the lead of the show. Creamy, velvety, woodsy, earthy, full bodied and plenty of nicotine. The Virginia, bready, yeasty and sweet, supports, complementing the rich earthy, espresso cigar. The Oriental and Latakia work primarily in a small role, rarely coming to the forefront but enhancing the flavor profile of the leads. Key Largo is well balanced, reminding me of the smooth steady cigar note in Habana Daydream but slightly more dark and a level heavier. I’ve added this to my cellar list and bucket list. I need to get myself down to the Florida Keys if for no other reason than to enjoy the luxury of a beach and bowl at sunset.

UPDATE 2021: Year-to-year this has become a bit inconsistent, so I've reduced my rating by a half-star. My original short review is below.
Quite possibly the most smooth Latakia blend I've ever had. Another tin-a-year favorite.

There is nothing like a good cigar. This blend gives that cigar flavor and combines it with an English woody, smoky pipe tobacco. It can be bitter. But still gives that pleasant woody pipe flavor. This is one I keep in my pipe tobacco stash.
