Seriously good. One I don’t plan on being out of. If you love Latakia don’t hesitate to get a full lbs. it’s exactly what I wanted. It reminds me of black coffee, Straightforward, bold, tasty. Great way to start and finish the day.

I have read some older piping books about Latakia being the big bad wolf of pipe tobaccos, but I really don’t think it’s like that at all. I mean, after all, our American sense of spiciness in foods have really changed since the 1960s. Probably we have moved beyond the idea that Latakia and Perique will make you puke if you smoke them straight as an exercise in taste sensativity. I think this is true. This blend has the campfire smokiness of Latakia (obviously), and the peppery spiciness of the incencesy Orientals (with Cayenne pepper and ginger). On the plus side, this blend lends itself to a wide variety of applications in which Latakia is the required element for sprucing up an otherwise dull blend and moving it toward an interesting English blend....Read More

I felt sure I would like this blend, but I expected it to be very harsh and overbearing. Not at all!! A very pleasant surprise! It's very smooth, cool, and easy on the palate! The Latakia (75% of the blend) is very full and creamy. The orientals are noticeable in the background providing some sour notes (which compliment the Latakia very well). The burley brings up the rear, only intermittently detectable but it provides some nuttiness as always, which adds some body and complexity. The foremost adjective that comes to mind is comfortable. I like this tobacco. Very high quality ingredients. It's very smooth and creamy. The only issue is that for me it is too bold and cloying, which is normal for the Lat bomb. So, this tobacco is not for regular smoking, otherwise it's like eating cake several times a day every day - you'll just get bored and tired of it. But this is not a problem at all, because Pirate Kake can serve as perfect Latakia base for creating your own mixtures, while smoking it straight as well from time to time. Just don't add much of other ingredients to it in order not to spoil the base. I think it's good to add up to 1/3 of other tobaccos. In my case, considering that the Pirate already has Burley and Oriental together with Latakia, I add about 15-18% of quality Virginia and 15-18% of quality Perique to it. What a wonderful mixture it is! I use strong Virginia because the strengh of Pirate is not enough for me, while you may prefer something lighter depending on your taste....Read More
