. It is wonderfully and potently fragrant, it's smooth and rarely bites, and it is easy to acquire. I love and appreciate the other varieties of Latakia in the market, but nothing can beat a good GL Pease or C&D English in pure delightful flavor (except for Plum Pudding maybe). Forgive my lengthy prelude. Pirate Kake is indeed jam packed with this delightful Latakia, and it's apparent when you rub out some of this lovely cake. Some may be surprised to see a healthy portion of Brown Burley and Turkish, but don't be fooled because Pirate Kake is a Latakia powerhouse. The primary notable tin note and flavors are or course, Latakia! The Burley and Turkish help to smooth out the smoke and add faint delicious undertones, but the Latakia is supremely dominant throughout the smoke, and never falters. The Creosote flavor is there, with a slight nutty undertone on occasion. In my opinion there is no sweetness in this blend but I don't mind. I intend to smoke half of my stockpile fresh, but I'm also looking forward to how PK will taste with a little age, and the Latakia softened a little. If you're looking for a delicious lat bomb then PK is your blend, but if you're looking for a lat bomb with a stronger Turkish presence I highly recommend Star of the East Flake. I foresee lots of Pirate Kake and Star of the East Flake in my pipe smoking future. Both are pure Latakia heaven when you are positively craving it. I'm also starting to appreciate exactly how smooth Pirate Kake is relative to how much Latakia it contains. It's pretty impressive. Read Less

Wow, this is heavy in Latakia. Rather than overwhelm you it works really well. It burns well and forms a nice ash. It's not harsh, there's a certain smokiness which has it's edged rounded by a creamy finish. This is an exceptional tobacco.

My new favorite.
Been a pipe smoker for over 40 years and Pirate Kake is some of the best ever. Smoked in a new Missouri corncob to understand better the flavors and subtleties. Will buy more and experiment to see what aging does.

不得不说这是款好草。闻起来很浓的皮革汗液味道。干湿示意，基本不用醒草，但需要把大颗粒稍稍揉碎些。点然后就是直给的焦香味道，开盖时的那种皮革掺杂腋下汗味就淡了很多。奶油味托底，焦香味是主线，些许烤红薯皮的甜香。燃烧很好，温度也容易控制。每当夜深人静的时候独自一人来上一斗，仿佛回到了小时候，放学路边的烧饼摊。

tic strong and musty sweetness of Cyprian. The Turkish/orientals are dry and very floral. There’s a topping on this... caramel, prune... can’t place it, but there’s definitely a topping. Burley provides body, added smoothness and aids in the creamy mouth-feel. Irish Breakfast tea goes very well with this. Nicotine and body are mild, but the taste is medium/strong. Read Less

several times a day every day - you'll just get bored and tired of it. But this is not a problem at all, because Pirate Kake can serve as perfect Latakia base for creating your own mixtures, while smoking it straight as well from time to time. Just don't add much of other ingredients to it in order not to spoil the base. I think it's good to add up to 1/3 of other tobaccos. In my case, considering that the Pirate already has Burley and Oriental together with Latakia, I add about 15-18% of quality Virginia and 15-18% of quality Perique to it. What a wonderful mixture it is! I use strong Virginia because the strengh of Pirate is not enough for me, while you may prefer something lighter depending on your taste. Read Less

After having couple of bowls, I still didn’t get it . I’m a Latakia guy, but this to me is kind of boring and humdrum. I was like barely eating a piece of butter, which brought me a greasy mouthfeel! I didn’t really understand. Sorry to say that.

ke's mild, lovely flavour.. It's still a strong smoke, it's just got a fairly mild flavor. Like Guinness Draught, say. Not much sticks out: Creosote.. Gunpowder, leather, peat. These kind of flavours, borne of latakia singly. The turkish offers nice counterpoint, but no standard campfire, woody, earthy et al aromas to be had on this trip. Still, it's a pretty impressive cake and it pairs best with a cup of two day old black coffee (which I'm also fond of), or a guinness. This is not a complex smoke. ogether in this blend. I find it to have a very rich, flavorful smokey, pleasantly toasty, note. I taste at least three different alternate flavor notes as different sized chunks of tobacco burn. The Krumble Kake cut adds tremendously to this blend. It requires one to slow down and enjoy the ritual and preparation of a great pipe smoke. Without question, the different sized chunks of tobacco, with different blends of leaf, is at the root of the many different sub-flavors that manifest during the bowl. Most other cuts wouldn't work with this much Latakia. I recommend a small bowl with a longish stem for best smoke. Sip, don't puff hard! It lites well and stays lit right down to the end of the bowl. For me, this is my favorite Lat. bomb! Not an everyday smoke, but a great cold weather pleasure, to mix up the rotation. Read Less

lack of balance; I wanted as much Latakia as possible. The cake itself has that delicious campfire aroma to it, but it doesn't seem to come out as much in the bowl. The flavor and aroma don't have that intoxicating factor that blends like Nightcap or Constellation have. It doesn't do anything that would keep me coming back to it. It does stay lit well. If you're looking for a Latakia blend that sings just one note and sticks to it, Pirate Kake may be right for you. Read Less

太屌了！
前中后期一直很温和，从无辣舌出现。奶香始终相伴，又不像睡帽那么浓，不然没有三聚氰胺的加成还真抽不动！尾段出现烤面包烤麦片的香气，让人根本不用纠结是否该结束了。价格略高，但是折扣时是真划算！毫不犹豫，16oz的直接安排！

a great smoke from Stimulus Package or Da Vinci maybe even Mississippi Mud if you’d like black Cavendish. Again absolutely nothing wrong with this stuff I just think there are much better options especially within the same company for Latakia heavy blends. Palette: Smells of rich peat, ash, campfire and a little spice. Had a light vinegar note on top. Taste like how it smells. Has a waxy essence to it and if you enjoy Latakia this will be a go to blend. You may even liken this to a creosote and tar aroma. Barely any sweetness in the blend, and if you do find it, it doesn't stay. With the majority of this being Latakia, you should know what to expect.
Performance: A very cool burning blend. Absolutely no indication of bite even when puffing vigorously. Very creamy, smooth in the mouth and leaves a nice coating for you to enjoy for an hour. Leaves more than average moisture and requires a few relights and smokes at a less than medium burn rate. One dimensional taste. I didn't find this blend to change much in the bowl. Mild nicotine. Not an all day smoke,. Maybe once a week.
Conclusion: A very interesting and heavy blend. You either love Latakia or you seldom partake in it. I fall in between. I enjoy a good Balkan or English blend, but not this much Latakia. I bought this because I found a 6 year old tin at a local B&M. I enjoyed the tobacco for what it's worth, but felt completely satiated for a while. A very straight and narrow taste profile with hardly any change. I can see why some like this alot, and some who would never smoke it more than an initial bowl. I don't think I will be buying another tin, but it was a good experience. Read Less

ives it a bit of a bite that's not exactly my cup of tea. I like Burley tobaccos as well, I just don't think this blend uses it well. Perfect moisture content out of the tin for breaking a piece off the cake and stuffing. I prefer to not rub this one out or it will burn too fast on you. Tastes great up front, but once you get past the half way point of the bowl the flavor changes and not for the better. I wish there was a more consistent taste throughout on this one. Read Less

This is a smooth, robust tobacco, with awesome smokey , and nutty, and woody tastes. The scent and taste are both compkex. And a top of all that , this tobacco is smooth. Burns well, and tastes great.

Not a good tobacco for a newbie or someone who likes aromatics. However, there is nothing better than this for Latakia -Lovers. And, I mean nothing. Be prepared for a punch-in-yje-mouth Latakia kick. Smoke this slowly.

I'm a big fan of C & D. I think they make some excellent blends and this is one of them. It's definitely loaded with latakia but it just doesn't overwhelm the blend. This is one you should try.

Not nearly as overpowering as some say. My tin was dated from 2015. This lights well and burns at a great pace. Strength is medium, body is medium, flavour is medium plus. Good smoke, I will keep it on hand as much as possible

If you love the taste of Latakia this is for you, depending on how you break apart the cake is smokes differently each time. The room note is smokey and sweet all around a amazing smoke.

much of that "campfire" Latakia taste as it is that mossy, damp, woody, nature-like taste. Which is exactly the Latakia taste I look for.
It is somewhat similar to Ten Russians, but there definitely is a difference between the two blends and Pirate Kake is much, much better.
Some people have talked about tongue bite, but I have not experienced this. I assume because it is in a crumble kake that the moisture content can initially be high, so maybe dry it a little before smoking to avoid steam/tongue bite.

would be lovely with just a little more Orientals in the mix; say, 50% Latakia with the deficit filled with Turkish leaf. Pirate Kake is definitely a "Lat. Bomb". Although the Burley adds body, it's the distinct flavor of Orientals in the mix which makes this blend enjoyable beyond just tasting like a smoky campfire. was very smoky yet smooth (smelled a bit like a camp fire). I added 2 lbs. to my last order... tried a bit when it arrived and again it was a bit sharp but enjoyable. I will keep the 2 lbs. in my cellar and check on it every few month for the mellowing I enjoyed on my 2012 earlier order. To be honest... I would never have purchased this by just reading the 75 % Latakia, but trying this in the sampler was a very nice surprise! I do recommend to those that really like their more potent English blends. It may get my additional half star again with aging. Smoke it slow! Read Less

I love laktakia, oriental bases, but the excess of Laktakia made this blend somewhat bland after a 50 gram tin. It is true to its word, but C&D could tinker the blend and do better.

I am on my second tin now. I have started using the cigar cutter method of preparation (As shown on the SPC blog) and find that it makes the smoke quite a bit smoother. This will be one of my regular smokes. Read Less

eally seems to spoil at or near the half-way point; the bottom half of every bowl I smoke just simply does not have the same effect (and results) as the top half. If it were consistent from top to bottom this would be a five-star rating and my number one smoke. Read Less
