I've been smoking Rattray's Red Rapparee for a long time, and it's one of those blends I can always count on. Rich, earthy, smoky and wonderfully spicy, it delivers a beautiful interplay between the Virginias, Orientals and Latakia. I particularly enjoy the Oriental character. The woody, slightly dry, incense like spice gives Red Rapparee a distinctive personality and keeps the smoke interesting throughout the bowl. What I appreciate most is its consistency. It has enough complexity to make me pay attention when I want to, yet it's equally enjoyable when I simply want to relax with a good pipe. This is only my second English blend I've tried, so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but this blend smells and tastes great. Seems to burn cool. I look forward to trying this in cooler weather because it's almost too strong for my taste in warm weather.
