than Reiner Long Golden Flake (to which it is often compared, and which tastes cased to me). VaPer lovers take note - the dark-fired Kentucky is spicey enough that it sometimes makes me think there's perique in the blend. It also adds a more typical smokey flavor to the mix complementing the slightly tangy, mildly sweet Virginias. To my taste, this blend has a natural full flavor without being overwhelming like some flakes, with moderate nicotine. It comes in 'long flake' form, meaning it's one long wide continuous ribbon, folded over and over, packed inside a plastic bag in the tin. It breaks apart easily for smoking and to me has just the right amount of moisture to smoke without drying. As another reviewer noted, the 100 gram Solani tins do not reseal tightly so you'll want to jar this if you are not going to smoke it all up right away (and it's tempting to do so). a first for me and I found it real easy to prepare. The moisture level was bowl ready from the tin and benefited form a little extra dry time. I keep a jar on hand to smoke and jarred some more up to age. It's a go to morning, noon or night. Read Less

the sweetness of the Virginias. Rubs out effortlessly...or just shove it in your bowl as-is.. smokes terrific either way. I think this stuff is incredible.
The only qualms I have is the packaging. The tin is NOT vacuum sealed, so be ready to jar it upon arrival. Despite that issue I still give it 5 stars because it's just that damn tasty. Read Less

mend repackaging the tobacco as soon as you receive it or putting the tin in a zip-lok bag. Old Gowrie is one of my favorite tobacco blends and this will make for a wonderful replacement when Old Gowrie is out of stock. There’s lots of sweet sharpness from the dark fired Kentucky and red Virginia. Truly top notch and deserving of 5 stars. Blends with dark fired can be pretty strong but this has a nice potency to it without being too much. As many other reviewers agree this is up there with the best of them. Read Less

abeth I... a quick lesson in 16th century tobacco history, for all loyal subjects of interest in the "leaf," as it were. I'm unable to distinguish positively which tobacco is up front. My impression is slightly more VA than KY & the flavor remains consistent with maybe a little more sweetness at the halfway point. Some might say it's "cigarettish" but due to the flavor of the quality leaf, expertise in the preparation & blending, it's so much more than that.
OK! Moving on! Puffed a few times & let it sit a few minutes... I always use this DGT method on VA blends. Didn't take long to get a nicotine jolt. It is very mild tasting & doesn't bite but has a relatively strong nicotine content, especially toward the end. I recently started inhaling one single puff after acquiring a good burn rate to judge the Vitamin N content. I contend SF Number 660: to be of exceptional quality. Read Less

al quality of the Va. with the rich earthiness of Kentucky dark fired tobacco in the center. Just a hint of citrus here and there throughout the bowl giving it a clean refreshing flavor with the right amount of natural sweetness. It can burn hot if you smoke too hard, which is easy to do because it tastes very good. Of course, this stuff is even better after you age it for awhile. Read Less

Sometimes sweet other times spicy, Silver Flake is an excellent Virginia/Kentucky blend. It doesn't stay lit very easily but the flavors more than make up for this flaw.

Taste is medium to full and mostly consistent, with notes of toasted bread, wood, sweet alcohol, spice, leather, spicy, floral, earth, nutty, peaty vegetation/hay, dry, mildly acidic, tangy zesty, orange peel/bitters, mildly savory, a stewed rich dark fruit background note, and a peppery retro.
