he campfire smokiness with a cooling, floral note, while the VA comes into play infrequently for me (though I suspect I'd notice if it wasn't there to sweeten things up slightly).
Packed, lit and burned perfectly. First light is all Latakia, with the Turkish coming into play part way through the bowl. Aftertaste is surprisingly clean and short-lived, and the room note is lighter and cleaner than one might expect as well. My wife is not hot on the smell of Latakia blends, but my daughter loved this one in my beard afterwards. Read Less

omatic and musty Orientals never exude the spiciness for which it's known; and the Latakia is strongly cedar essence but not so heavily fired so as to be creosote. Aging brings about a sweeter, more mellow VA and Oriental, while the latakia becomes deeper and less pronounced. I realize some don't like Cornell and Diehl, but I absolutely love their leaf. Each blender's taste is unique, and C&D has a rustic quality that showcases clean-tasting tobacco with little, if any, toppings and PG. Nicotine, body and flavor are all equally 2 out 5 in strength. tch is cheaper and I have to say, in my quiet voice, better. Now, this is a fine blend, there is nothing wrong with it. This had your typical C&D cut, burns well and needed no relights. Great tasting blend. I felt a bit guilty, looking over at the bag of Sutliff: Balkan Sobranie Original Mix Match as I was smoking this. But this is a great smoke too. Could I smoke this all day, you bet.

For having 50% latakia, this blend was surprisingly pleasant to me (I like measured doses of latakia). It's rich and flavorful, and the smoke has an incense-like quality. I highly recommend this blend.

On the contrary, I found it pleasurable from start to finish. When you first open the tin, you're welcomed by a lovely smell of Latakia and orientals. As if you walked into a place that sells incense. The cut is a thick ribbon and at the perfect moisture, at least in my case. It is quite easy to light and keep lit. I rarely had to relight this. It smokes consistently, dryly and burns down till the bottom. With your first few buffs you may find that it is not at all a heavy Latakia blend despite what C&D says. It has rich, dark virginia, complemented with spicy and woodsy orientals with an okay precense of Latakia. Definitely a complementary condiment rather than the star of the show as they claim. Nevertheless it's a pleasant blend that is enjoyable for any English lover. I found it to pair well with black coffee as well, and as for me its nicotine is mild to medium, but again this last part is subjective. I presume the flake will be better than this, and hopefully closer to their Latakia claim

Though lacking a distinctive appeal this is a solid English without topping. The Red Virginias work well and this blend doesn’t cause me tongue bite like some of the bright Virginia’s do. Solid blend just nothing great.

The orientals have Kind of zesty mouthfeel. I am able to find bready note form the Virginia.
Full-bodied blend.

more va, some more turkish, some more latakia, but some kind of a balance is needed. Dunhill London mixture and Standard mixture is perfect. This is way over the top with latakia. Its good the first 3 bowls but because of heavy latakia you palette and taste buds become tired to the point you cant taste anything. Then no matter what you smoke after is null and void because of burnout. Im talking taste burnout here not tongue bite. Ill stick to the good old english blends like Dunhill, Presbyterian, and Sobranie. Read Less

l a bit sweet, but has also a lot of robustness that reminds a cigar. You can clearly taste that this is a C & D Blend. Latakia is always present, but not dominant. You can easily see the differet mixture parts, when you open the pouch. Interesting, that stoved Virginia is clearly visible in quite broad Flake pieces. It burns very well, and leaves just a bit of ash. Very big recommendatation for those that look for a lot of Flavour, but having trouble with nicotine. Will buy more! Read Less

Bold and heavy in Latakia, but well balanced though. Very nice nuances delivered by the good combination of virginias and orientals. Much more enjoyable than Pirate Kake, that is so overwhelming in Latakia and completely monotone.

Product: Cornell & Diehl Star of the East Bulk
Smokey almost campfire type of flavoring with just a hint of Virginia and orientals. A mild English compared to something like C&D's Yale or Billy Budd. My personal all-day favorite.
