In early 2000, I began considering the prospect of selling pipes on the internet. I incorporated Laudisi Enterprises that May, registered Smokingpipes.com that June, and we sold our first pipe that November. Twenty years and lots and lots of pipes and pipe tobacco later, Smokingpipes occupies a special place in the hobby. To celebrate, we've created two distinctive Virginia based blends, crafted by Cornell & Diehl, each featuring a significant percentage of 18-year-old Perique.

2020 marks the 20th anniversary of Smokingpipes.com, and to commemorate such a milestone we've partnered with numerous members of the pipe smoking community to develop and release several projects throughout the year. We're excited to present Cornell & Diehl's contributions in the form of two special SPC 20th Anniversary tobacco blends: XX Flake and XX Flake Dark.

XX Flake features bright Virginias and two Oriental varietals alongside the vintage, 18-year-old Perique — offering a nuanced flavor profile of spice and citrus notes, bolstered by the intriguing essence of Orientals overtop the familiar Virginia and Perique tobaccos. Limited to 5,000 serialized tins.

This a beautiful smoke,I'm using it to break in a new pipe.I'm sure I can taste the orientals in this one.Not trying to drum up business for C&D,but this the best from them I've had yet, and my experience with them goes back to the late 90s

All I have to say is....wow! Please C&D, make more of this so I can be a greedy golfer and buy tins if it and smoke this all day. Absolutely wonderful smoke. The quality of the tobaccos is top notch, the flavor is out of this world. Please make more of this....I’m begging!

Cornell and Diehl knows how to blend a beautiful mixture. This is one of the most exceptional treats I’ve ever had from them. Tin is full of gorgeous golden flakes. The perfect proportion of the three tobacco’s are used to create a silk line smoke that is absolutely sublime. Bought one can of this and one can of the dark. I let this sealed tin cellar a few months. Now I've had several bowls. The Virginia is the main thing. I get hints of the others, but usually it's a mildly sweet, grassy Virginia. Let a couple flakes dry a while and it's a good smoke. That said, there are several bulk Virginia or Virginia-based (and/or VaPers) flakes that are much cheaper and just as good or better. I'm an intermediate pipe smoker, and I've reached a point where the fancy packaging and limited runs don't sucker me in anymore. I suggest skipping the high dollar flakes and getting big quantities of highly rated bulk flakes. Put some in the cellar and enjoy a jar in the meantime, too. This is so well balanced, much more refined than the Dark XX, A perfect VaOrPer that will only get better with age.
Make sure you cellar this one deep, C&D’s best offering ever.

I’m a fairly new pipe smoker so I don’t have all the fancy tasting notes... but wowza! This is a great blend! It did not impress me for the initial part of the bowl, but 1/3-1/2 way in it really starts to meld and the flavors are just wonderful!
