About This Pipe Tobacco
The Luminaire, Drawndown, and Party Line pipe tobacco blends are members of Missouri Meerschaum's celebrated MMC Elite series. Manufactured by Cornell & Diehl, these three blends honor Henry Tibbe and the pivotal role he and his family played in modernizing Washington, Missouri's infrastructure. A cake-cut blend of Burley, Cavendish, and St. James Perique elevated by notes of peaty scotch and cocoa, the Party Line mixture celebrates Henry Tibbe's son, Anton Tibbe, who installed Washington, Missouri's first telephone line in 1883.

When first opening the tin the room note and taste was more cocoa forward but after a week or 2 the room note and taste shifted to a much stronger scotch note.

st light. Surprised there's no virginias in it, it's got that citrusy tart nasal sting I usually attribute to a good VA. First few pipes I didn't notice the cocoa, third time I did. Very subtle. Reminds me of that fictional Wonka candy that has a 5 course meal in it. Like I'm being taken on a ride. It gets richer further on, deeper and more hearty but the "virginia tang" is still there (is it the cavendish?), burley adds a creaminess. Good all the way down to the bottom. No ashy taste (even smoking through the dottle), no bite.
Update: So the older it gets, the less sweet tartness I'm tasting. In fact, now I get more of a rich earthiness that I dare compare to horse droppings. I don't know if this is something that needs a sophisticated palate to appreciate, like stinky cheese, or if it's just plain weird. I'm keeping the high rating because it is unique in this taste and I favor the unique, but I did drop it half a star because well... you know...
Update: Ok horse droppings is a little much. I'd say rich and earthy with a little bit of sting, like silage (fermented grass, for the non-farmers). Took off another half-star because there's a little bite by the time you get to the bottom of the bowl. I still like it though....Read More

ste. Yes, you will continue to taste it. I still feel I am learning to smoke this, but for now I have bumped up my rating from 2.0★ to 3.5★ for it now being between average and good. I will adjust, again of course, if deserved. (Original Review) Not sure why they call this an Aromatic. It reminds me of C&D's Night Train; both in tin note and taste. Only Night Train is less expensive if bought in bulk. In addition, the absence of Virginia in Party Line doesn't distinguish it far enough apart from Night Train. So I would recommend trying Night Train before Party Line. For me it is, at the moment, 2-Stars. Because this is one I would not keep in stock to partake of from time to time. I have three tins of Party Line, with one of those three open. Perhaps some age on the other two tins will put me back up on the 3.0★ fence. But right now I am slightly leaning toward this remaining on the 2★ side of the 3★ fence. Party Line has a funny way, though, of putting me on both sides; as I keep changing my rating from 2 to 3.5 Stars. Sometimes it's disappointing and other times give me that "maybe" feeling and thoughts....Read More
