Look, Captain Black is one of those tobaccos you might have to stash under the couch cushions when your pipe-snob friends stop by—you know, the ones who only smoke blends hand-picked by monks on a Himalayan mountaintop. Yeah, sure, you can grab this stuff at your local liquor store or even Walmart (gasp!)—but let's face it: it's ridiculously delicious. Burns perfectly, stays cool and dry, and smells so good even smoke-haters seem suspiciously drawn into its magical smoke cloud at the park. Follow this and you will be surprised. I was surpised when I saw how many peoples do like captain black. For me it was so chemical stuff that i throw my corn pipe into garbage the first time I've smoked it! But, I was wondering how come this stuff still popular , and I have make some researches. Put your Captain Black in a jar without any humidifier and forget about it for almost one year! Just shake it well every 2 weaks. Thats it. I've only been pipe smoking for 3 months now, after hand rolling for 2 years and then smoking Marlboro's for 25 years before that. I don't bother to give a review unless I feel it's worth 5 stars.... I was a real tobacco snob at first and resisted this stuff when I saw it in a smoke shop because the pouch brought back childhood memories and I figured if my Grand Dad smoked it, there had to be something better out there by now. I've been having great fun sampling various Lane and Sutliff aromatics, but did eventually get curious and buy a pouch. After just two bowls I jumped here and ordered a big ol' tin to make sure I never run out. This stuff provides just enough of a back-of-the-throat hit, along with nicotine satisfaction to keep this former cigarette smoker happy, without any cough or burn. Ok let me tell you this is a toss up between lane 1-Q and capt black original I think I like em both equally the capt is basically 1-Q bit stronger more of a vanilla chocolate and RUM aroma and flavor it’s got more kick and nic than 1-Q sweet black cavendish soaked in the pitates rum burns evenly to the bottom leaving grey ash this tobacco is awesome if we would have traded to the Sioux and Cheyenne we would have had a peace treaty from the start the lane 1-Q has vanilla room note with maple and brown sugar and the sweet virginias so the verdict is in I love em both equally capt black original for some strength and bite and lane limited 1-Q for a milder sweeter version thank you guys at smoking pipes you got a customer for life shiver me Timbers I’m gonna pack my third bowl Right Now yeeeehaa...Read More

In my younger days I smoked this and Borkum riff from time to time. We didn't have too many choices. I remember going through alot of pipe cleaners, and it was a tad sweeter than I like. Our tobacconist had a wooden cigar store Indian, and three jars of his own mixtures. So, typically I would run out of his Burley mix, and be jonesing. Nowadays, (with ecommerce, and the internet) there are so many good products, and wide varieties. Captain Black is like the Old Spice of pipe tobacco's. Some people really enjoy it. My dad loved the captain. If it wasn't for this blend I probably wouldn't be smoking a pipe today. This was my the first blend I tried. Its a great aromatic. Stick with the tin though not the pouch.

This has been my favorite pipe Tobacco (next to Amphora) since 1975. The tin aroma, the sweet flavor of Carmel and coco and vanilla from start to finish…GONE! Where’s the flavor? And why?? Why ruin this great pipe tobacco? Now it’s just hot smoke! My wife and son can’t smell anything when I light-up! And they’re smokers and loved the Captain! Glad I bought some Villager new world!
