About This Pipe Tobacco

Gawith, Hoggarth & Co's Ennerdale Flake is predominately Virginia leaf from Brazil, Zimbabwe, and Malawi but with the addition of sun-cured Malawi to add sweetness, strength and to cool the smoke and Malawi Burley to carry the flavor in addition to its cooling and strength qualities. A background flavor of almond is enhanced with the addition of fruit, vanilla, and the special Lakeland style flavors to give this tobacco its distinctive aroma and taste.

Creamy Cane-Sugar and Nutty
May 04, 2026
Product: Gawith Hoggarth & Co. Ennerdale Flake Bulk
My first review. Note that I’ve been cellaring a bulk order in an air-tight mason jar for the past 3 years before opening and the flakes are sparkling full with sugar, and the Lakeland essence has softened a bit. The Lakeland topping shouldn’t dismay you as, although it does sublimate the tobaccos a bit, it isn’t overpowering and lends itself to the experience. I prefer to fold and stuff the flakes but some may not agree. The very creamy, cane-sugar, nutty burley at times, and sweet virginia is experienced from top to bottom. I smoked it rubbed-out in a thin walled Brebbia pot where the flavour was mostly cane-sugar from top-to-toe. Smoking it folded and stuffed in a Savinelli 673 with robust walls was spectacular....Read More
First time trying Ennerdale Flake

Product: Gawith Hoggarth & Co. Ennerdale Flake Bulk
This was my first try of Ennerdale Flake. First for a Lakeland aromatic.
I normally do not care for aromatics, but had heard so much about the "notorious" Lakelands, that I bought 2oz just to say I'd tried it. My mouth was watering at the scent before I even got the bag opened, but on opening f
ound it not overpoweringly aromatic.
This is for lack of a better term "dreamy".
When it folded and carefully lit it, it lit reasonably well and smoked beautifully. Almost exotic aromas... couldn't decide if I was daydreaming by an English lake or in a tropical breeze. The complexity is perfect and the Lakeland... no grannies linen drawer πŸ˜‚
It was just a well burning soothing smoke, with a surprisingly good vitamin N content. This is a new all time favorite I think!
Did require 3 relights... a slight bite when I was gourging on it. Reduced pace and back to perfect.
Goes through many phases of flavor, all of them enticing!

This tobacco really surprised me. The floral notes are subtle. The fruits were nice and not kick in the face. The smoke was creamy and left a sweet taste not only in my mouth but on the stem too. A plus tobacco, buying more this week!!

New grass is a strong seasoning star anise taste. Let's keep it first and look forward to the good taste.
A flavor journey

Thought I would give this tobacco a try and ordered an ounce. At first light it seemed a little peppery, but then came the flavors. The burley is overshadowed by the wonderful flavors of Virginia and the Lakeland essence that I have heard so much about, but never tried shine like a majestic star. It is delicious. My nose tells me that this tobacco reminds me of my grandmother and the smells in her house. It brings back warm memories. I'd recommend this flake for anyone looking to take a trip back in time....Read More
