The first time I ordered this, it was very close to the Dark Flake Aromatic I ordered at the same time. Very light on the flavoring, stong smelling and strong nicotine, but mild on the tongue. I ordered it a second time very recently from new stock (different seller got some in stock, briefly), and it was much fruitier and overly-sweet smelling. Maybe it's an aging thing, but the two batches were very different. I preferred the first batch, I can't smoke the new, overly-flavored BFA by itself, but I found some Dark Flake Unscented last week and discovered a 50/50 blend of the two is HEAVENLY! A perfect balance of stong and smooth, with just a hint of flavoring and no bite.

Every time I have ordered GH&Co, I ended up regretting not buying extra because it is always out of stock when I go back for more. I suggest, if you think you might like this stuff, you probably will, so order more than you think because you might not see it again for a long, long time....Read More

Don't know what's up with the rating button but I want to make it clear that this is a 5 star out of 5 star rating. I have a friend from the U.K. that told me that I would tier from the American everyday burley blends. I though he was wrong, and for years he was. But another friend that lives here in the states told me he was sending me some "tasty" virginia's and some other tid bits. He sent me some Samuel Gawith flakes and that was it, I was hooked. Gawith Hoggarth Brown Flake aromatic is one of my favorite tobaccos. When I first bought it and opened the bag I thought I made a huge mistake. The stuff smelled exactly like the powder I use after showering. I mean it's the same smell! I thought to myself "this is going to be gross". I let it sit in the jar and smoked the Dark Flake Scented and loved that. After a few months in the jar I decided to pack a bowl. The flakes had tiny glistening diamonds all over them. Besides rum Flake Dark Flake Scented and Coniston Cut Plug, this stuff is by far my favorite Gawith Flake. Taste is amazing, the room note is fabulous, and it has a great nicotine content, perfect to be honest. If it wasn't so darn pricey I would buy 5lbs at a time. Kendal Flake was another favorite but I'm not too upset that KF was discontinued AS long as Brown Flake aromatic is still around....Read More

I picked up 500g boxes of both the brown aromatic and dark aromatic flakes from G&H. Had you asked me ahead of time which one I was likely to prefer I would have sworn the dark would have won out as I’m a far bigger fan of maple than of fig. While it turned out the dark was amazing, the brown however is superior. The room note is fantastic, but I expect that from aros. Smoking this is just wonderfully sweet and balanced. The virginia sweetness shines through, with subtle backing of the toppings enhancing the smoke for an almost desert like quality. Likely too sweet for an all day smoke, it’s just simply delicious and I find myself turning to it whenever I want a desert. Likely far healthier to smoke this than to actually eat something sweet. The sweetness is predominant, but not artificial in any way. It’s not gunky, just a wonderfully sweet virginia with mild flavoring. It’s not over the top in any way. This smoke is so delicious that the biggest issue I have is slowing down while smoking. This is something I would highly recommend you pick up and try. Gawith, Hoggarth & Co’s Brown Flake Aromatic combines quality hot-pressed, dark-stoved Virginias with Burley varietals, flavored with licorice, fig, and tonka bean essence. For those who dislike goopy and artificial flavored tobacco, no need to worry, the aromatic side is not at all overly done, just a faint, pleasant and natural aftertaste, as the Lakeland essence. I also regularly smoke G&H Brown Flake Unscented and you can taste the same quality components and raw tobaccos. On the other hand, if you like full aromatics and don't like to taste the natural flavors of Va's and Burley's, this might not be your cup of tea....Read More
