About This Pipe Tobacco

A smooth, Bright Virginia flake of famous refinement and antiquarian origins, Capstan Yellow, like its medium-bodied Blue sibling, was originally created by W.D. & H.O. Wills of Bristol during the latter half of the 19th century. Suffice to say, it's no accident this smoking mixture has survived as a favorite to so many generations.

Solid Virginia blend. Sweet, citrusy, light casing or topping adds a bit of extra sweetness. Not the most complex, knock your socks off smoke, price point is a bit high for what it is but it is definitely smokeable and enjoyable. Even if STG wasn’t (assuming the rumors are true) eliminating this blend the price point would keep this from being my go to straight Virginia but I will absolutely smoke the tins I have cellared....Read More

There has been a lot of panic buying of Capstan since Mac Baren announced they are merging with STG, so I figured I needed to buy a few tins to see what the commotion was all about. I’m glad I did! This Virginia is so good! The flakes came properly moist, and only needed a few minutes to dry before packing and lighting. The flavor is mild to medium with hints of dried fruits, and hay. I freaking love capstan blue. This is still very good quality tobacco. Nice flavor. Doesn't really hit the mark for me personally. If blue is too much,this is for you.

A mild-medium Virginia

A very nicely presented and pressed flake, rubs out and packs well in my pipe. I find the flavor for me on the mild side and good use more Virginia flavors. Good for morning. I will keep a tin or too on hand and age. Hopefully STG will keep it or C&D will work out a good similar blend.

I absolutely love the flavor of this flake. The tin note is a mix of raisins and ketchup. Unfortunately, the pH level doesn’t agree with me. Even when I smoke as slowly and carefully as possible, it scorches the inside of my mouth for over a week. It’s not a mild heat bite but more of a harsh, chemical burn. It’s a shame because the flavor is exceptional. I can smoke Capstan Blue with no issues, so sometimes it just comes down to incompatibility....Read More
