About This Pipe
This design is derived from the curving, flaming, horn-like pipe held in the right hand of Joan Miro's "Catalan Peasant with a Guitar", and although the proportions of this Ser Jacopo are obviously of a more sinuous nature, the gesture, from slender bit to high-rimmed bowl, does catch the lively, leaping character of Miro's own flame-jetting depiction of a briar. Like the painting itself, this design seems to present a moment of celebration, captured in time - an essence all the more accentuated in this example, which sports considerable flame grain.
