The act of apostasy defines an event wherein one refuses to follow or obey the tenets of a faith or religious organization, the commission of which then makes one an apostate. Apostate Cigars was founded in 2021 by Kendrick Woolstenhulme and Brandon Overson, both former members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, who named their company in reference to the Mormon stricture of abstaining from tobacco. Founded in rebellion, Apostate Cigars aims to blend the traditional with the unorthodox, creating unique cigars that are as rich with flavor as they are with story.

The Zarahemla is named in reference to the the supposed capital of the Nephites, the chosen people of the Mormon faith, which was allegedly situated somewhere in pre-Columbian Central America. A rich cigar with an indulgent flavor profile, the Zarahemla boasts a Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper, Cameroon binder, and fillers from Mexico and the Dominican Republic. This particular cigar is part of the Eight Witnesses subseries, a line containing all eight of Apostate's blends in a single, 4.5 x 44 Petit Corona vitola. Referring to one of the groups of witnesses who had supposedly seen the Golden Plates fundamental to the LDS faith, the cigars in this line are excellent for anyone wanting to sample Apostate's blends in a consistent, shorter-smoking format.
