About This Pipe Tobacco

A smooth, Bright Virginia flake of famous refinement and antiquarian origins, here in ready-rubbed form, Capstan Yellow, like its medium-bodied Blue sibling, was originally created by W.D. & H.O. Wills of Bristol during the latter half of the 19th century. Suffice to say, it's no accident this smoking mixture has survived as a favorite to so many generations.

This has to be on the list of tobaccos that has to be saved!!!! I've had many that are similar, but this stuff is one of a kind. I really didn't want to be one of those smokers that can't move on and accept the changes, but THIS ONE IS A KEEPER!!!

There is a reason why this brand has been so popular for a century! It’s sweet, fragrant, creamy, fruity, rich, all at the same time.
It smokes cool and doesn’t bite.
The flavor gets darker and deeper as you smoke down the bowl, owing to the sugars getting caramelized.

Tin Note : when freshly opened. It smells like pineapple, which I usually get for pure Virginia tobacco. After letting it sit in a mason jar for a couple of days, we get some citrusy notes, caramel and some brown sugar. Flavour : sweet soury, savoury I would even say. I get some slight hay and earthy notes but definitely not as much as the citrusy notes. Smoking this blend reminds me of Ice lemon tea. No strong vinegar or ketchup notes detected. Tongue bite : right out from the tin, yes. After letting it sit in the jar, minimum tongue bite. Mechanics : really straight forward. Just pack and puff. Stays lit relatively well even in Singapore humid weather, requires a few relights. No drying time needed. Strength : medium to strong. Had a lot of time at work the whole day. Smoked four bowls of it and felt some nicotine sickness in the fourth bowl. Hence, repeatable but not an all day smoke. Will I buy this again : if I happen to be travelling and spot this I would grab 2 tins of it. Tin note of ketchup, mild stewed fruit, and spices. The tobacco is moist but dry enough to smoke. The orange-brown broken flakes rub out easily. Burns slow with a few extra relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild to medium. Though listed with Fruit / Citrus flavoring, I couldn't discern it individually. Taste is medium and consistent, with complex notes of sweet hay, dry earth, tangy orange peel, stewed fruit, spicy, tart lemon grass, floral, very woody, a mildly sweet spiced bread background note, and a moderately peppery retro. Great smooth smoke

Tried this for the first time and was pleased. Had a hard time keeping lit, but it can also be from my packing technique still developing. The flavor was pretty good, had a nice scent to it too.
