Good stout tobacco , I really enjoy it but, Smokingpipes needs to carry this in 16 oz bags though. 7 bucks for less than a ounce and half is not a good deal. I have to buy Picayune from another web site that sales it in 1 lb bags.

e relayed the stories as well. My grandfather’s coworker regularly smoked rolled cigarettes with the heady stuff within. Many of these stories involved the smoker offending others with a noxious and overpowering room note. But what all such tales had in common was the tobacco was smoked in cigarette form! I don’t know what those old-school New Orleanians were thinking, as this is sold as pipe tobacco for a reason.
I didn’t try this until my early forties, when I was an experienced pipe smoker and had indulged for over a decade in many different blends of pipe tobacco. I can’t say in honesty that it’s pleasurable. In fact, I can I recall only enjoying one of my many bowls of this tin. Well, with the first bowl in the morning, I’m less prejudiced and far more forgiving. But the rest of the times it burned down to a fine white ash in my pipe’s chamber, almost as if it was shag. After each of those bowls, I deduced that this burley/Virginia/perique/Turkish creation isn’t a horrible or even bad blend. Just not balanced, not flavorful, and not enjoyable for me personally.
Sometimes I think there’s enough peppery perique in this to kill a mule. Though perique-aficionados may be far more on board with this blend. And that one time I retrohaled? I chuckled, feeling the keen burn in my throat and I remembered those hardcore New Orleanians from generations before.
I probably won’t restock it, but it was worth the adventure! 3.0 stars. Read Less

my laptop so I could write a review. The only thing for me to do is blend this 50/50 with a mild Virginia and cellar it for a while. Not something for the faint of heart or anyone with a queasy stomach.
Unless I can tone it down quite a bit, I won't be buying more of this blend. Read Less

ment the meager St. James supply but the fermentation process is the same. After a few puffs, I finally found the way to my lounge chair without aid from anyone. Wow! this is the strongest blend I've ever stoked into a pipe bowl. Has a slight cigar aroma to it & is shag cut... somewhat on the dry side and could be used to RYO. It has a good flavor for such a strong blend. I'll keep a tin of this on hand at all times to top off any wimpy blends should the need arise.
However, this blend is good to smoke by itself, if you dare, or can be used to add extra strength to a wimpy or a PG aromatic blend you've been wanting to finish off without changing their flavor all that much. The moisture content is just right for smoking right out of the tin or to RYO. If you like extremely strong blends & think you're tough, give Picayune a try. If you roll your own, you might want to sample some on a full stomach. A couple of king sized RYO cigarettes might last you all day long... it's that strong & I wouldn't try to inhale this stuff... there's no need to. Read Less

I agree totally with brother Kevin P. Truly unique perique. A must try. I love this belend after dinner with a nice snifter of brandy or cognac. The best of D&R's blends in my humble opinion.

tobacco because of the one of a kind Perique flavor. Not peppery like some Perique can be but more what I think of as slightly sassy and mildly spicy. Very satisfying. I am surprised that the strength is only a 4 rating? I'm a very seasoned pipe smoker and I consider this a very strong high nicotine tobacco. I prefer very strong tobacco and to me this is as strong as any tobacco I have ever smoked. I smoke many Gawith Hoggarth &Co. strong tobaccos and Picayune as strong as any of those. pery than any VAPer I've ever had. The last half calmed down a bit so I could get a little Samsun and burley/VA, but still Perique forward.
It's a good quality blend but NOT what I was hoping for. Also, the nicotine his was sustancial. Yikes! Read Less
