Why Rustica matters

regular and stoved Rustica in the Sutliff Birds of a Feather and Pipe Force limited runs, and this blend. (I’d be surprised if he didn’t also have a hand in my favorite of all—Sutliff’s Limited Edition Barrel Aged No. 5.)
I’m smoking a bowl of the PGJ bulk blending Rustica as I write this and realize how much of a loss it would be if we no longer had access to blends with this uniquely bold, strong leaf.
But I have hope that Per’s collaboration with Laudisi will yield new and exciting blends using Rustica. And I’m excited to imagine what someone like Jeremy Reeves would do if he started to experiment with Rustica.
One other note: two of my favorite small-run blenders, Ken Byron Ventures and Mad Hatter, released a handful of (mostly discontinued) blends featuring Rustica. KBV had Myrkwood, Nightmare, and Thunderlord; MadHatter did Destroyer. I assume all four of these blends used Per’s HH or blending Rustica as their source, but the bottom line is that there are some amazing things that can be done with this leaf.

Once again a great blend or blender from Per. All these tobaccos are wonderful on their own and I have no doubt will blend well together. Personally I like all 3 non aromatic blenders all stand alone pure tobacco experience worthy of putting away plenty to age.
