About This Pipe Tobacco

Cornell & Diehl's Small Batch: Firebird Flake explores the interplay between sun-cured and fire-cured tobaccos, specifically heirloom Orientals and Dark-Fired grades, two condimental varietals that rarely act as the main components in a blend. These tobaccos are enhanced by a trio of specially aged Red Virginias for a complex yet beautifully balanced profile with hints of citrus, wood smoke, and green peppercorn.

Product: Cornell & Diehl Firebird Flake 2oz

Beautifully cut flakes, perhaps a bit more dense than C&D's usual flake offerings, and certainly more moist, benefiting from some drying time. Though the flakes have a pronounced smoky aroma in the tin, the dark fired is by no means overpowering in the smoke, and is so expertly blended that it never seems to jump out at you throughout the bowl. Burns remarkably slow. Spicy and dark woody aromas in the retrohale tickle your nasal cavities and a mellow sweetness lingers in the mouth. I think C&D do burley (DF is fire cured burley, if I'm not mistaken) better than anyone in the industry, and this offering once again convinces me that pipe tobacco is not pipe tobacco without some type of burley in it. I think this tobacco will really sing in the spring and summer and I look forward to smoking it then. In the meantime I'll continue filling my house with this intoxicating fragrance. Thanks to C&D, JR, and SmokingPipes for this amazing blend....Read More

Perfection.

Product: Cornell & Diehl Firebird Flake 2oz

This is a beautiful combination of amazing tobaccos. A great blend. I'm sad it is so hard to get. I've got to say, it is an easy smoke right out of the tin. It does not require much drying, it is not too moist. The red virginias carry a dark fruit and bready profile, augmented with the 2005 Izmir and Samsun. It's got depth and character. I'd 1000% buy again and smoke it regularly, if it wasn't so hard to get....Read More

Aging well

When I first tried my tin at release I wasn’t too sure about it. Maybe a bit too bright for me then, but 8 months later either I have changed or the tobacco has developed. It is still very bright but something has mellowed to the point where I’m enjoying the flavors. I’m catching more fruity notes that are developing through the bowl. Incense flavor and spiciness on the retrohale, which I love! There’s a bright zesty taste on the tongue which combined with the darkfire has reached a delightful balance. No real smoky taste but I have caught hints of a Toscano like smell from the smoke off of the bowl. I’m enjoying very much 8 months in. Excited to see if development continues....Read More

For the love of God! Please! Please! STOP LEAVING POOR RATINGS FOR YOUR HURT FEELINGS! No one cares about your hurt feelings. These reviews are for the blend and only the blend. Im so tired of reading "the blend is fantastic" and "Jeremy is a genius" but giving a blend a 1 star review because your feelings got hurt that the blend was sold out. Its a limited release for a reason. Not everyone will get a stock pile. Thats not what its designed for. If a blend is a massive hit it will be reproduced in the future most likely. Also, if you are looking forward to certain blends keep up with releases and you wont miss out. Have a good day....Read More
