About This Pipe
This bent Egg was carved by Karl Erik, a prolific pipe maker and early adopter of the Danish Fancy Freehand style. With its soft curves and clean, flowing lines, this offering certainly showcases a distinctively Danish flair. The bowl possesses a plump fore, and demonstrates a narrow taper to the rim, which tilts backward for a strong sense of implied motion. Ridgelines frame the shank, lending it a lenticular cross-section and flowing into the bowl's aft wall before yielding to its lifted heel. The stylized shank-and-stem arrangement has a push-style look to it, thanks to the visual separation between the acrylic mount and the stem's saddled shoulders, yet the stem joins said mount via a standard tenon for a classic fit. Dressed in a smooth, warm finish and accented by a band of pale, smooth hardwood at the junction, this offering showcases a wealth of handsome grain.
