About This Pipe

Founded by Svend Bang in the late 1960s, S. Bang is known for their flawless, classically shaped pipes. Not long after the brand's establishment, artisan pipe makers Per Hansen and Ulf Noltensmeier joined forces with Svend, eventually inheriting the workshop from him after his retirement. When the duo was also ready to retire, there were no inheritors to whom they could pass on the workshop, so they closed their doors for good. As such, S. Bang pipes are highly sought after, with the last ones produced in 2019. Even before the workshop's closure, S. Bang pipes were widely regarded as some of the most beautiful and significant pipes in modern history, and when looking at this beautiful Acorn, this comes as no surprise.

Stunning grain abounds throughout the stummel, seamlessly aligned with its elegant shaping which consists of a broad, affably plump bowl paired to a curved, tapering shank and a saddle stem with sizable shoulders. The latter extends the perceived length and taper of the shank, and together they balance the heftier visual weight of the bowl up front. The bowl's walls take on a swift, deceptively effortless curve from the broad heel to the inflated rim, both of which showcase stunning birdseye. Between heel and rim, the walls of the bowl display fanned flame grain, as do the flanks of the shank. These gorgeous grain patterns are accentuated by a smooth, contrast-rich auburn finish with a glossy sheen, which also draws further attention to the graceful curves and contours of the stummel. With such stunning grain and masterful shaping, and fashioned by one of the most influential and sought-after workshops in modern pipe making, this Acorn is sure to secure a coveted spot in any collection of fine smoking instruments.
