About This Pipe
The late Jess Chonowitsch was a second-generation pipe maker, and a pupil of the legendary Sixten Ivarsson. After learning from the best of the best and devoting decades to the mastery of his craft, Jess became highly influential in his own right, his work coveted by collectors and inspiring a new generation of carvers.
It has been quite some time since we've come across a Dublin from Jess in our estates, and this is a beautiful rendition from the master craftsman. The bowl is tall and stately, poised proudly at the fore of a sleek, rigid shank-and-stem arrangement. This silhouette is quintessentially "Jess," featuring a touch of muscularity to the bowl, as well as the slightest hint of a forward cant for just a bit of implied motion. Along said bowl, the perfectly executed sandblast displays stack after stack of stunning ring grain, while birdseye speckle the top of the shank. The stummel's dark, inky hue contrasts handsomely with the generous band of silver that adorns the shank, adding a brilliant, elegant dose of flash to the ensemble.
