About This Pipe
Karl Robert Kris began exploring new business opportunities post-World War II due to difficulties in the shipping industry, turning to pipes in his hometown of Kolding, Denmark, at the age of 47. Kris began with only a few employees but quickly expanded to need a new factory in the mid-1950s, and what was known as Kriswell became Kriswill as part of a compromise with fellow Danish marque Stanwell.
This bent Dublin from Kriswill features alternating cross grain and birdseye splashed across the walls of the bowl, which is topped by an inflated rim. More cross grain and birdseye decorate the shank, which is ovoid and lightly upturned from the heel. The entire stummel is finished smoothly and stained a dark walnut hue, and the stem is a saddle-style piece of vulcanite with crisp ridgelines flanking the narrow bit. The stem is also lightly bent, arcing ever-so-slightly in the opposite direction of the shank.
