About This Pipe
Dunhill's special, limited-edition Imperial Pagoda series draws inspiration from the elegant, tiered towers that have long stood as symbols of spirituality, tradition, and architectural beauty throughout East Asia. Released in 2008 and limited to just 100 pipes, the series showcases the White Spot's talent for pairing classic pipe making with refined artistic presentation. Complete with a selection of thoughtfully curated accessories, each set is elevated well beyond a traditional smoking instrument into the realm of a true collector's piece.
The series centers on a Dublin-like Poker dressed in Dunhill's rugged Cumberland finish and accented by a polished jade band at the shank end, adding a touch of vibrant color to the composition. It is accompanied by a matching jade tamper, creating a cohesive presentation that highlights the natural beauty of the stone. Both are housed in a custom presentation box fitted with a lock and key, ensuring the pipe and its accessories are displayed and preserved in elegant fashion.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
