Askwith Sandblasted Volcano (2025) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe

One of England's few artisan pipe makers, Chris Askwith is also a remarkably skilled silversmith. In addition to his stunning silverwork, Askwith's pipes are known to feature a wide variety of materials, and they often offer modern twists on classic silhouettes. Such is the case with this Volcano; it's quite the architectural take on the standard shape.

The bowl is on the narrow side for a Volcano, with a flat, crisply chamfered heel and a reserved taper toward the rim. Behind the bowl, a slender, low-set shank emerges, lifting slightly into the air to meet a gracefully bent and tapered stem. Said stem is made of polyester, and is replete with incredibly tight swirls of black and white. The white swirls grow denser at the base of the stem, creating a lovely gradient effect. This grayscale gradient perfectly complements the stummel's dark, inky sandblast, which reveals a wealth of handsome grain and offers a stimulating texture for the hand to appreciate.
