About This Pipe
Presented here is a stout Group 5-sized "06" Pot from Dunhill, featuring a slightly elongated, arrow-straight shank-and-stem combination that contributes some additional sleekness to the classic form. This piece is also able to sit sturdily thanks to the shank's flattened underside. It's dressed in the marque's crisp, craggy, and elegantly understated Shell Briar sandblast, which has unveiled rippling growth rings around the bowl.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
