About This Pipe

With a background in design and architecture, Greek artisan Chris Asteriou started making pipes in 2007. He takes inspiration from typical Anglo-French shapes, using dried Greek briar and German ebonite to form his pipes. His unique sense of proportion and fine line work make his work unique, and though he is self-taught as far as pipes are concerned, there's no doubt that Chris' background prepared him to be a master artisan.

This Volcano from Chris has a sandblasted stummel with a dark stain, both of which accentuate the flame grain on the sloped walls of the bowl. A lengthy, arch-shaped shank reaches all the way back to a fine Ivorite accent, behind which a saddle-style vulcanite stem finishes the piece. The underside of the shank stretches seamlessly into the rounded heel, and the circular underside of the bowl gives the bottom of the pipe an almost keyhole-shaped profile. It's a very sleek and deliberate work on Chris' part, one that takes a very unique shape and puts his own very unique spin on it with excellent results.
