About This Pipe
Ser Jacopo's story began in 1982 when Giancarlo Guidi and Bruto Sordini left Mastro de Paja to start their own firm. In true Italian style, the company's pipes offer finely crafted variations on traditional British and French shapes. With their Mastro Geppetto pipes (named for the man who carved Pinocchio) Ser Jacopo takes the same curious approach it brings to the neoclassical shapes and variant finishes of its other pipes at a much lower price.
This Mastro Geppetto bent Churchwarden packs plenty of stem into its 10-inch span, but the Brandy bowl shows off cross grain and birdseye while also including three grooves — one on each flank and one on the front — to fit the fingers for easy support in the hand. Atypically, the stem bends upward as it extends away from the shank rather than downward, giving the pipe an interesting orientation that most Churchwardens do not provide.
