Jared Coles Smooth Lovat with Horn (2022) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe

American pipe maker Jared Coles' style comprises a unique fusion of American muscularity, Danish fluidity, and Japanese organicism. His American and Danish influences are evident in this Lovat, especially in its buff, compact dimensions. It's only a hair over four-and-a-half inches long, but the bowl's wide waist and the girthy shank suggest a pipe that ought to be much larger. Though it may be short in length, it still carries plenty of tobacco-holding capacity in its capacious chamber. The low placement of the bowl's waist, the cheeked transition, and the round, almost Brandy-like taper to the bowl's walls all give away Coles' Danish influences. In contrast to the normally protracted shank typical of the classic shape, Coles' rendition of the Lovat has a shank that is girthy and rather short. It joins to a gorgeous split stem whose base is made of horn and whose bit is vulcanite. The horn extends part way up the flanks of the vulcanite bit for a stunning visual effect.
