About This Pipe

Micah "Yeti" Cryder is a pipe carver based in Montana, known for his organic and fluid designs that beautifully combine playful forms with expert engineering. Inspired by Danish pipe craftsmanship, Yeti's pieces are characterized by dynamic shapes and organic accents. One of his notable creations is this Nautilus, which closely resembles its namesake shell. It features a stummel that curls inward and a shank that connects to the bowl. This design is achieved through a careful interplay of momentum that starts at the rim. In this particular rendition by Yeti, the bowl resembles a Rhodesian shape, wrapped with a crisp ridgeline before the rim.

The momentum is carried through the lifted heel, giving the entire bowl a forward trajectory. This flowing motion continues through the shank, which is accented with ridgelines that enhance the shank's curling effect. The stem is made of vulcanite, with rounded shoulders that are softly canted to maintain the piece's fluid posture. The grain on this piece is particularly noteworthy, as cross grain envelops the bowl's flanks, while a small sea of birdseye is featured at the center of the curling shank.
