About This Pipe
We haven't seen a Bulldog design from Alex Florov in recent years, making this bent rendition a true rarity. The Russian-born artisan, now based in Chicago, often gravitates toward Freehand-inflected interpretations of classic shapes or wholly original, highly imaginative designs. This piece, however, marks a departure, embracing a more traditional profile. The muscular, forward-canted bowl features twin beadlines beneath a tapered rim. It's paired to a crisply defined diamond shank and fitted with a gently downturned, semi-transparent, amber-hued stem whose coloration complements the warm auburn stain of the stummel. Handsome grain enhances the composition, with birdseye peppering the tapered rim and lively flame grain — especially along the right flank — proving particularly eye-catching.
