About This Pipe

Abe Herbaugh developed a love for woodworking in his father's shop while growing up in West Virginia. He built electric guitars as a young man, during which time he was reintroduced to the hobby of pipe smoking. Abe eventually became interested in pipe making and attended his first pipe show in 2010, then left his job building guitars to pursue pipe making full-time. World-renowned for his craftsmanship, Abe draws particular influence from Danish and Japanese artisans.

This bent Egg from Abe is classically shaped, with the rim lightly inflated in a line across the canted top of the "shell" a lightly arced shank stretching back from the bowl. Beautiful tendrils of flame grain and splashes of birdseye decorate the stummel with great poise, all of it stained a dark walnut hue that provides a nice contrast within the flame grain in particular, The saddle stem is vulcanite with brief shoulders, gently bent to a bit with crisp ridgelines. Abe put his eye for grain and linework on a grand display with this bent Egg, which will be at home with any collection of fine American craftsmanship.
