About This Pipe
Tonino Jacono entered the pipe business in 1981, finishing and selling pipes that were shaped by his brother-in-law from briar acquired and drilled by his father-in-law. After two years, Jacono left Calabria — the region comprising the Italian peninsula's southwestern "toe" — and moved north to Jesi, a municipality near Italy's Adriatic coast. Jacono began making pipes under his own name in Jesi, and still does today, with a philosophy of making high-quality pipes at a fair price point.
This Brandy Sitter from Jacono is fronted with a muscular heel that follows a straight slope to the rim from a height near the top of the shank, itself quite muscular in its brief reach back to the stem. This piece barely reaches out of Nosewarmer territory at 4.67 inches in length but manages to pack plenty of great grain into that span, particularly the tight flame grain that reaches up the left flank of the bowl, well accentuated with a light stain and smooth finish. The stem is a saddle-style length of black acrylic, matching the shank in its arrow-straight orientation and offering a great finishing touch to this piece.
