About This Pipe
Luigi Radice worked in the prestigious Castello workshop before founding the Caminetto brand with Giuseppe "Peppino" Ascorti in the late 1960s. In 1980, Radice began producing his self-titled brand of pipes with his son, Gianluca, and father, Paolo. The brand pays heavy attention to the briar that goes into each pipe, seasoning it for three years before production.
This Brandy from Radice wears their craggy Rind carved finish and, as a work of the Pure line, is unstained to allow the natural color of the briar to be appreciated by the eyes. Though straight, the walls of the bowl are steep for a Brandy, providing this piece with a shaping akin to a lightly tapered Billiard. The shank is muscular as it reaches back to a wooden accent, behind which a stem of black acrylic tapers to the bit. Though straightforward in shaping, this Pure Brandy places the briar above all else by allowing it to breathe and be touched directly without any interference, a sign that Radice's artisans truly valued the material that went into this pipe.
