About This Pipe
With an approach rooted in precision craftsmanship and an appreciation for classic pipe design, Trey Rice produces work that feels both timeless and distinctly individual. His pipes often balance sculptural elegance with practical comfort, pairing flowing lines and thoughtful proportions with meticulous attention to detail, reflecting influences from the American, Danish, and English schools of shaping.
This Sitting Fig is one of Rice's more playful and dynamic creations, featuring an Acorn-like bowl with a taut heel and a gently flared rim. The heel is flattened at its base, allowing the pipe to sit upright without the aid of a stand — a noteworthy feature given the piece's overall size and length. The bowl also houses a generous chamber, making it well-suited to long, leisurely smoking sessions. Echoing the bowl's flare, the shank broadens gradually as it reaches a trim boxwood accent and a subtly curved saddle stem. A dark sandblast dresses the stummel and reveals a wealth of attractive grain throughout.
