About This Pipe

When Alexander Hasty crafts a pipe, the form is most likely bent and characterized by Danish design cues. The American artisan is fond of fluid, curving designs and soft lines, but his straight Billiard interpretations often exhibit a more firm-lined, structured motif — represented by this example. The heel is particularly firm, matched by the crisply angled transition, yet the lower bowl still boasts a noticeable plumpness and the subtle upward taper typical of Danish Billiard interpretations. So, while this Billiard is on the firmer end of Hasty's shaping spectrum, it still fits naturally into his portfolio, both in shaping cues and finish. Alexander appreciates traditional, understated finishes and color palettes, forgoing vibrant colors and utilizing traditional accents like boxwood and Ivorite. In this piece Hasty, elevated a deep, earthy contrast stain with a pale ferrule of Ivorite, the smooth texture of the accent echoed by the rim's finish.
