About This Pipe
Italian artisan Claudio Cavicchi boasts over 50 years of pipe-making experience and possesses an uncanny talent for bringing out the very best from a block of briar. His portfolio is full of evocative interpretations of classic shapes, and he is known by many artisans to have some of the best grain in the world, with even his non-graded pipes rivaling the top-tier pieces of other workshops. Having received an impressive four-C grade, this Volcano is an excellent piece from the seasoned artisan.
This Volcano is a thoroughly Italian neoclassical rendering of the traditional shape, exhibiting plenty of substance throughout the bowl and transition. The bowl lurches forward energetically as its heel flares broadly to show off an impressive expanse of craggy plateau. The shank vaults upward, where it's met by a deeply bent stem with a pronounced taper toward the bit. The stummel showcases a wealth of gorgeous grain, with dense flame grain streaking the walls of the bowl, and tight curlicues of birdseye dancing around the rim and along the top of the shank: all dressed in Cavicchi's signature smooth, honey-blonde finish.
