About This Pipe
Kai Nielsen is the eldest son of Bari pipe factory founder Viggo Nielsen and started working at Bari for "pocket money" in his teens before joining the factory full-time in 1972, at the age of 21. Now a pipe artisan of many years in his own right, Kai's designs are thoroughly Danish, as is this bent Egg, which Kai awarded one of his highest designations: Jewel of Denmark at the "B" level.
This bent Egg of Kai's is fronted by a bowl that is canted sharply forward with walls that are almost Brandy-like in how linear they are. Flame grain decorates the bowl through a rich, chocolate-colored stain matched on the muscular, dramatically upturned shank, which fades quickly into a lengthy half-saddle stem of vulcanite. Quite unique and its shaping and smoothly finished to a cloud-like touch, this piece is a fine specimen of Danish craftsmanship.
