About This Pipe
Larry Roush has a penchant for liveliness, and the sort that calls to mind the uniquely bold forms of the Italian school. This bent Dublin Sitter shape is one of those, with its emphasis on broadly-flared, poised gesture and solidly-grounded foundation offering a silhouette that could put even certain Pesaro smokers to shame. The chamber is seriously deep, and the crisply-realized heel in profile subtly calls to mind a Becker-esque sense of shaping, to my eye. The sandblasted treatment is fantastic, as is typically the case with Larry, unveiling a pattern of ring-grain practically as craggy as they come while still maintaining a concentric spread of surface area. The precise silver band makes for a refined touch, while also initiating a sense of elegant contrast from the hulking display of organicism down below. Together with the shank's steady sense of taper, said band serves to guide the eye to an olive brindle-patterned vulcanite stem, making for a neat complement to the bucolic piece. Lovely stuff.
