About This Pipe
Founded in 1982, Ser Jacopo is now one of the most influential and iconic pipe brands throughout Italy. Founded by Giancarlo Guidi, this workshop is responsible for creating Pesaro, shaping and working with high-quality briar to create whimsical and flamboyant pieces that lean heavily into the classic Italian style. The Gem Series comprises some of the best pipes at Ser Jacopo, displaying fantastic shaping, beautiful grain, and an abundance of classic Pesaro charm. The series also has an internal grading system to denote quality that ascends in order from Smeraldo ("Emerald"), Granato ("Garnet"), Zaffiro ("Sapphire"), and Rubino ("Ruby"), to Brillante ("Diamond").
This Granato-graded bent Dublin is a handsome showcase of the Persaro aesthetic, presenting us with a bowl-centric composition. The bowl is softly paneled along its flanks, featuring enough substance throughout to display wisps of flame grain so clear that they earned Ser Jacopo's illustrious Fiammata designation. The bowl sits on a flat heel with a forward cant, causing the shank-and-stem arrangement to upturn nicely for comfortable smoking. Pipes in Ser Jacopo's Delecta series feature a distinctive shank end and stem base — a regal silver accent joins the two components together, adding the ideal touch of flash to the composition. The stummel is dressed in a warm chestnut stain, highlighting the aforementioned grain and starkly contrasting the dark, craggy plateau along the rim.
