About This Pipe
Among Denmark's most distinguished artisans, Mike Sebastian Bay has rapidly earned recognition for his refined interpretations of classic Danish forms. Having trained under Tom Eltang, Bay brings a deep understanding of proportion, balance, and internal engineering — crafting pipes that are as thoughtfully constructed as they are visually compelling. His pieces consistently reflect that dual commitment to beauty and performance.
This bent Dublin exemplifies Bay's fluid, elegant style. The shape unfolds naturally, guiding the eye from the bowl through the sharply lifting shank and stem. Though the bowl offers a reassuring sense of substance, its presence is balanced by the upward sweep of the shank-and-stem combination, culminating in a poised, well-balanced profile. The shank and stem's sweep not only encourages a natural, comfortable smoking posture, but also continues the elegant curvature that underscores the entirety of the composition.
A vibrant contrast stain amplifies the briar's character, illuminating lively tongues of flame grain along the bowl's sides and a tightly clustered constellation of birdseye crowning the rim. Completing the composition, a gleaming horn accent at the base of the saddle stem introduces a refined touch of brightness, lending the piece an extra note of distinction.
