About This Pipe
Before Musico was its own brand, Giorgio Musico opened a shop with renowned pipe makers Fritz and Paolo Becker in 1989. In 2002, the two families parted ways, and Giorgio's son, Massimo, established his own workshop. Rather unusually for an Italian pipe maker, Massimo's pipes tend to hew more closely to classic Anglo-French designs than Italian neoclassic ones. This bent Bulldog from Musico is an especially eccentric interpretation of the shape, considering Massimo's usual classic leanings. The subtly paneled shank is so thick that its bottom portion juts out below the bowl. The heel of the bowl is plump with a substantial in-hand presence as it flares up toward the waist. Said waist, further deviating from the standard Bulldog's typical shaping cues, comprises a singular edge instead of two beadlines. Above the waist, the inflated rim tapers rapidly into the edge of the shallow chamber. Out back, the shank lifts sharply from a tight transition into its junction with the short, slightly bent saddle stem. This pipe borders on Nosewarmer length and possesses a shallow chamber, making it a practical choice for on-the-go smoking.
