About This Pipe

The first pipe Pete Prevost owned was a corncob that he purchased in his hometown of Bakersfield, California, at age 18, and the first pipe he made was a smooth Nosewarmer Billiard he spent two days making from a kit. He learned pipe making from Jody Davis and Todd Johnson, and would start BriarWorks with Todd in 2013, later becoming the company's president.

This bent Egg from Pete's workshop puts plateau to great use on the upper half of the bowl, giving the rim a craggy feel and appearance that sets this piece well apart from other renditions of the Egg. The combination of growth rings and flame grain gives the bowl a wealth of ridges that are intriguing to touch and see, reaching back to include the muscular, dramatically upturned shank that is itself topped with plateau on the face. The stem matches the stain in its brown-red hue and tapers back from half-moon shoulders to finish the piece with a brilliant synergy. The combination of grain, shaping, and coloring make this piece a great work of American craftsmanship — one that is not to be missed by any collector of Pete's pipes.
