The "69" is one of Peterson's most traditional English designs, representing the style of bent Billiard common to classic English and French marques. The prominent transition and heavy-set shank that define Peterson's aesthetic are forgone, replaced by a more slender, angular profile. Inspired by the madra rua, "red fox," of traditional Irish tales, Peterson's Rua finish is a crimson-and-black, contrast-stained sandblast. A contrast finish incorporates two different stain colors, and the labor-intensive, time-consuming process involves staining a pipe one color, sanding down or sandblasting the stummel, and then applying the second stain, with adequate time spent in between to allow each stain to fully settle into the briar.
