About This Pipe
Luigi Radice worked in the prestigious Castello workshop before founding the Caminetto brand with Giuseppe "Peppino" Ascorti in the late 1960s. In 1980, Radice began producing his self-titled brand of pipes with his son, Gianluca, and father, Paolo. The brand pays heavy attention to the briar that goes into each pipe, seasoning it for three years before production.
Radice's Underwood finish is carved to mimic melting candle wax, a popular motif of neoclassic Italian pipe making. The bowl of this Billiard has a very craggy touch to it with deep carved valleys along the muscular walls, which reach up to a flat rim of plentiful birdseye. The pale coloring of the stummel allows flame grain to be easily observed around the carved portion of the bowl and on the shank. A tapered stem of black acrylic finishes the piece, which cuts a fascinating profile thanks to its arrow-straight bowl that is deeply textured by the Underwood finish.
