About This Pipe
Based in Pesaro, Italy, and founded in 1982, the Ser Jacopo workshop has a long-standing reputation for innovation when it comes to Italian pipe making. The founder of Ser Jacopo, Giancarlo Guidi, defied convention when he established his workshop and began producing pipes that diverged from the Anglo-French shape-chart classics, instead drawing inspiration from fine art, and even daily life on the island of Pesaro. Until his passing in 2012, Guidi experimented with playful proportions and bold finishes, paving the way for a new style of pipe making that's still beloved today. With its bowl-centric design and bold, dramatic proportions, this Maxima Rhodesian certainly exemplifies Ser Jacopo's signature style.
The height of the tall Rhodesian bowl is further emphasized by its classically high-set waist, which is itself accentuated by a crisp beadline. A cheeked transition introduces a robust, upturned shank, which is in turn met by a saddle stem with steadily tapering shoulders that keep the visual weight fixed firmly on the bowl. Within its tall bowl, this offering boasts a sizable chamber with ample room for a favorite blend, yet it's not quite as large or time-consuming to smoke compared to Ser Jacopo's multiple-Maxima-graded pieces. For the smoker looking to add a long-smoking, thoroughly Italian pipe to their rotation, this Rhodesian is a fine choice.
